A post is being circulated on social media with a claim that the Ministry of Health in Singapore had recently discovered COVID-19 as a bacterium after conducting an autopsy on the dead COVID-19 patients. This post claims that COVID-19 does not exist as a virus, but instead as a bacterium that has been exposed to radiation and causes death by coagulation in the blood. Also, the post claims that the Singapore Government authorities had changed WHO protocols and started giving Aspirin as a treatment for COVID-19 patients. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.
Claim: The COVID-19 findings by Singapore’s Ministry of Health including the cure for the COVID-19 virus.
Fact: The Ministry of Health in Singapore had issued a clarification on this message circulating on social media. The Singapore Government clarified that the allegations made in the message are untrue and did not originate from the Ministry of Health, Singapore. Earlier, the same misleading message was attributed to the Health Ministries of Italy and Russia. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.
When we searched to check whether the Singapore Government had announced such findings on the COVID-19 virus, we found that the Ministry of Health in Singapore had issued a clarification on this message circulating on social media. The Singapore Government clarified that they had not performed an autopsy on COVID-19 dead patients and stated that they had not made such claims about the pathophysiology effects of COVID-19 infection. The Singapore Government further clarified that the message circulating on social media shares false information.
The Singapore Government had published a detailed fact-check article about this message. In the article, the Singapore Government stated that they had not made any resultant changes in the treatment protocols for COVID-19 patients. The Singapore Government had reiterated that COVID-19 is caused by the SARS-COV-2 virus. Further, they clarified that Aspirin has no direct effect on the virus that causes COVID-19.
The National Centre for Infectious Diseases in Singapore had mentioned COVID-19 as a virus and never mentioned Aspirin as one of the treatments for the COVID-19 patients. The World Health Organization (WHO) had also debunked this myth on COVID-19 being caused by bacteria.
Earlier, when the same misleading message was attributed to Italy’s Health Ministry, FACTLY published a fact-check article. It can be read here.
To sum it up, the Singapore government has not conducted autopsy on dead COVID-19 patients and declared COVID-19 as bacterium.
