A message purportedly from the Government of India saying that there would be new communication regulations in the country is making rounds on social media. As per the regulations in that message – all calls will be recorded, social media accounts will be monitored, and phones will be connected to the ministry. But, FACTLY has found that the Government of India has not issued those communication regulations. Also, in the message, it is mentioned that those new regulations were issued by the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy. But, in India, there is no such Ministry (There is ‘Ministry of Communications’). So, the message is fake. As the message went viral, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has also clarified that no such thing is being done by the Government.
